Short Story: The Writing Of

So I am about finished with my short story that I have thought up. My story's archetype is that of "overcoming a monster". The monster in my story happens to be a whole race; Goblins. This story takes place back during Ancient Earth which can be thought of as the same as Middle Earth( From the famous book and movie trilogy, "Lord of The Rings". The "good" guys in this story are the humans. The war between the two foes has been waging for three years and the final battle is about to be fought in the Gorgon Hills. This is about the point of where my story begins.

I am an avid fan of J.R.R Tolkien and his works. This is the reason I wrote about fantasy in ancient times. It just leaves so much open for your own imagination and creating something that has no rules is, in my opinion, the best type of writing there is. Though I will say that yes, this was not the easiest thing to write. Things such as making things flow along with describing things in words so that your audience will picture things as you are, are among the most difficult. The thing about short stories is that in order to make it short, you must leave out some details about characteristics, plot line, and key characters. You have to write so that the audience gets the feeling of that a character or situation is important to the final outcome of the story.

Now on the other hand, the easiest part of writing this is that you have complete openess to what you want to write. The is no rubric for certain things you have to have in it(other then dialogue). I think that when you have this option to just create what you want it makes is so easy to create scenarios that are interesting. When you start to write you get in the zone and kind of put yourself in the characters positions. You can picture your settings and characters so vividly which in my opinion makes it so easy to come up with dialogues and scenarios that the character's get in to. You take things that you have seen from things in your life and just apply it how you want to your story. For me, that type of writing doesn't get any better.

Those are the difficulties and easier aspects of writing a short story. Although the requirements for this was only eight pages, I believe that you cannot fit all the things you need to properly introduce characters, setting, and plot into eight pages. To me you need at least fifteen pages. I do not know whether mine will end up finishing with fifteen pages but I do know that it will be around that. So hopefully everyone that will read it will enjoy it and can make a connection with the characters and situations portrayed.
